Average position
Definition
The average order in which the brand appears when it is mentioned. Position 1 means it was named first.
How it is calculated
Position is relative to the tracked entities and is averaged only across answers that mention the entity. Absence is represented by mention rate instead of a position penalty.
Where to see it
This metric appears in the refd dashboard and in the no-signup demo, and every value links back to the AI answer it was scored from. A number you cannot trace to an answer cannot be checked, so refd keeps the raw response behind each one.
